[crossposted to .admin.general & .dear-lego; followups to .admin.general]

Here is a summary of all the group names I've seen mentioned so far in
the current brainstorming session.  I listed the names in categories just
for temporary organizational purposes.

NOTE:  Most of the names within each category represent mutually exclusive
alternatives.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bulk purchases
   lugnet.dear-lego.bulk
   lugnet.dear-lego.bulksales
   lugnet.dear-lego.bulk-ordering

Legal issues
   lugnet.dear-lego.copyright
   lugnet.dear-lego.fairplay
   lugnet.dear-lego.legal

Internet issues
   lugnet.dear-lego.internet
   lugnet.dear-lego.web
   lugnet.dear-lego.website
   lugnet.dear-lego.www

Elements, sets, themes:
   lugnet.dear-lego.element(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.theme(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.set(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.product(s)

Likes, dislikes, etc.
   lugnet.dear-lego.complaint(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.dislike(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.like(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.no-thanks
   lugnet.dear-lego.problem(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.rant
   lugnet.dear-lego.rave
   lugnet.dear-lego.thanks

Wishes, suggestions, etc.
   lugnet.dear-lego.suggestion(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.suggestion-box
   lugnet.dear-lego.wish(es)

Miscellaneous:
   lugnet.dear-lego.announce
   lugnet.dear-lego.clubs
   lugnet.dear-lego.direct
   lugnet.dear-lego.event(s)
   lugnet.dear-lego.legoland
   lugnet.dear-lego.lsahs
   lugnet.dear-lego.sales
   lugnet.dear-lego.service
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adding any others we've forgotten to consider, and boiling that down to a
workable list is the next step.

At this point, I could see one or the other of the following working fairly
well:

1)  Subgroups of lugnet.dear-lego:

       lugnet.dear-lego.announce
       lugnet.dear-lego.clubs
       lugnet.dear-lego.events
       lugnet.dear-lego.legal
       lugnet.dear-lego.rant
       lugnet.dear-lego.rave
       lugnet.dear-lego.sales
       lugnet.dear-lego.sales.bulk
       lugnet.dear-lego.www

However, while this works great for subgroups like .rant & .rave, the
"Dear LEGO" portion seems really awkward to me for subgroups like
    .announce or .sales.

2)  Subgroups of a new hierarchy lugnet.lego:

       lugnet.lego.announce
       lugnet.lego.clubs
       lugnet.lego.direct
       lugnet.lego.direct.bulk
       lugnet.lego.events
       lugnet.lego.legal
       lugnet.lego.www

And additionally, either breaking lugnet.dear-lego into

       lugnet.dear-lego.rant
       lugnet.dear-lego.rave

or just keeping lugnet.dear-lego as it is (was) and not creating new
    .rant & .rave subgroups.

Of those two options (and there may still be others), #2 makes more sense
to me, from the following viewpoints:

   - More readable/typeable.
   - Better fit to the TLC corporate structure.
   - Suggests two-way communication better than "Dear LEGO" does.
   - Fits upcoming user-group point of view much better, and allows for LEGO
Direct employees participating in LUGNET to act as a sub-community with
     a much more meaningful name/URL.

BTW, I'm not 100% clear as to which aspects of LEGO Direct would actually
fall under the LEGO Direct umbrella or under other TLC umbrellae.  Legal is
obviously its own separate entity (or collection of sub-entities) but .clubs
and .events might belong under .direct.  We'll need some input from Brad on
that one.

Feel free (anyone) to reply to this post and mark up the list, making
suggestions of additions, deletions, or highlighting specific groups with
relative priorities.
