Re: Thoughts on Battery-powered IR-controlled trains

(...) I'm saving up to buy an NXT - at Developer's Special, or full retail, I'll likely get one the first chance I get. But I'm not remotely thinking the RCX will be "obsolete" in 6 months. One, the NXT doesn't have IR... yet. It wouldn't surprise (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Thoughts on Battery-powered IR-controlled trains

(...) It'd be a nice nostalgic moment to see a battery tender version of the IR system, based on a short wheelbase. If you take a hacksaw to this one, your wheelbase is still going to be a minimum of 14 studs long, if you have the wheels right at (...)   Re: Thoughts on Battery-powered IR-controlled trains

(...) Also, for locomotices, the IR plate could be used on rolling stock pulled by a shorter loco (this is how most of the old 4.5v trains worked). Doesn't wor for trolleys though :( (...) Except the RCX will be obsolete in 6 months, and the NXT (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Thoughts on Battery-powered IR-controlled trains

(...) Note that for the strong of heart, this might still allow smaller trolleys... with some ABS shavings. But hacking the motor to allow RP and IR controlability seems a likely direction in any event. (...) Or even when you aren't. The biggest (...)   Thoughts on Battery-powered IR-controlled trains

My thoughts on the new battery-powered IR-controlled trains (BPIR trains)... First a quick summary of the reports that I've read here on lugnet.trains. 1. IR controller has three different channels. a. IR controller can switch between channels or (...) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: What's up with the 2006 price hike in Canada?

OK, I've got a German retail price for the NXT now: EUR269. This includes a 16% sales tax, and so it is amazingly close to the american price, although still somewhat higher. Yours, Christian (19 years ago, 10-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.ca)

Where should the 100 NXT testers' findings be shown?

Is it likely that all 100 of the people chosen for early NXT testing will know of LUGNET and post their findings here? Should LEGO set up a forum on legofan.org or mindstorms.com? How about nxtbot.com? It would be nice to have a single place to get (...) (19 years ago, 8-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic, lugnet.dear-lego, FTX)

Re: What's up with the 2006 price hike in Canada?

(...) And in the UK, they will probably retail for £249.99 - as they often just price it at the same price in teh Uk currency. That works out at about $440. I hope it is nto that expensive though!   Re: What's up with the 2006 price hike in Canada?

(...) Hey, don't complain, you're still well-off as a Canadian... When this set comes to Europe at the usual Lego "exchange" rates, we'll propably have to pay EUR300.00 for it - about US$350+. yours, Christian (19 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.ca)

What's up with the 2006 price hike in Canada?

Mindstorms NXT -> "suggested retail price of $249.99 (USD) and $379.99 (CAD)." What is going on? US$250 = CAD$286. I can save CAD$90 - shipping just by importing it from a US toy store, and possibly more if it slip pass custom. I have noticed (...) (19 years ago, 5-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.ca)

Re: Some things I'd like for 2006

(...) people would make their own versions like this? I doubt it - we still see some really good Star Wars MOCS here. Can you imagine a section of Tracy Island, with one of the thunderbirds (like thunderbird 1), including the whole crazy pilot (...) (19 years ago, 4-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Some things I'd like for 2006

(...) I understand where you're coming from Danny, but I've always found this response from TLG to be hypocritical to the max. At least half of the themes that TLG now produces is OVERFLOWING with violence! Okay, so they're not using modern military (...) (19 years ago, 3-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Some things I'd like for 2006

(...) In the 4403 Air Blazers set, there are a number of models (including the helicoptor and the large fighter jet) that are suggestive of military hardware without being actually military. (19 years ago, 2-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Some things I'd like for 2006

(...) Ooh, Thunderbirds. What a great idea. With minfig Thunderbird characters of course. The Exo-force sets caught me by surprise in the local TRU. The staff had put the sets on different shelving from the rest of the Lego stock. The boxes are so (...) (19 years ago, 2-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Some things I'd like for 2006

(...) What would be a real bonus would be sets with seriously nice sorter trays, and the parts in bags inside them. One of my favourite things about the large buckets was the fact that the buckets offer more use than the simpler boxed sets. Also, (...) (19 years ago, 2-Jan-06, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Some things I'd like for 2006

1. Stop with the slapdash box packaging. Opening a box and finding a bunch of bags sloshing around inside feels very dismissive, plus you are guaranteeing that either the instruction manual and/or the sticker sheet will be crumpled/damaged. 2. For (...) (19 years ago, 31-Dec-05, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: What I think should happen to Mindstorms.

What I am suggesting is either: A new RIS 3.0 with new constructopedia and parts but same electronics. And an upgrade kit (like the one that went from the 1.0 to the 1.5) containg the new parts and constructopedia. OR A new kit with new parts and (...)   Re: What I think should happen to Mindstorms.

I would love to have electronically operated valves to integrate with the RIS. It is the one thing that would really make Lego pneumatics more viable to me. The light and sound battery box - single 9v battery - (URL) expansion set is a good idea, (...) (19 years ago, 30-Nov-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: What I think should happen to Mindstorms.

(...) I think some automation of the pneumatic parts would be a good step. For example an RCX-controled switch would be a very welcome addition. Right now I don't use my pneumatic parts much, because integrating them with the RCX is a lot of (...) (19 years ago, 30-Nov-05, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.dear-lego)
