    Peeron access —Dan Boger
We are trying to allow everyone to use peeron, so we have removed the blocks for the t-online and the wanadoo users. We still have to pay for bandwidth though, so please, don't abuse our trust. We will block any user caught slurping, to avoid having (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.db.inv) !!

(...) I know this must make me sound dim, but... what is a "slurper"? thanks tom (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

         Re: Peeron access —Steve Bliss
(...) Someone who uses a special program to copy an entire website to their harddrive. Or the program that does the slurping. As you can imagine, slurping can suck up a lot of bandwidth. Steve (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

Re: Slurping at Peeron —David Gregory
I'm not quite as computer literate as everyone here on LUGNET, so I have to ask, what is "slurping"? I've never even heard of that term before. For all I know, I could've been "slurping" every time I visited Peeron and not even known it. I don't (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

Re: Slurping at Peeron —Dan Boger
(...) sorry - didn't mean to get technical :) "Slurping" is using a program to copy the whole site to your local computer. It's usually done with special programs, though I think you can get the same effect by using a "Saveing for offline viewing" (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

Re: Slurping at Peeron —David Gregory
Dan, If slurping is using a program to download a whole entire site, then I'm quite safe in saying that I won't, can't and probably never will be able to do that. (I'm a pathetic dial-up user, so it would take me eons, even if I knew how.) Something (...) (23 years ago, 2-Mar-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

        Re: Peeron access —Philippe Hurbain
Great! Thanks a lot... Now if the same kind of limitation could be removed from ldraw.org, everything would be perfect! Philo who happens to have Wanadoo as provider... (23 years ago, 1-Mar-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

        Re: Peeron access —Marc Klein
(...) Thanks Dan to open your site again. For the slurpers, they perhaps try to have an offline copy of your site. Is there a way to get it as a downloadable database ? Or you prefer to keep it only available online ? Philippe, I have Wanadoo as (...) (23 years ago, 2-Mar-02, to lugnet.db.inv)

        Re: Peeron access —Philippe Hurbain
(...) Thanks Mark, but I tried (again) both home and at work without success. Could there be difference caused by access type: I use ADSL connection ? (So I could be potentially a big slurper...) BTW, I tried another anonymizer which uses less (...) (23 years ago, 2-Mar-02, to lugnet.db.inv)
