TLG certainly could try to match the old color, but it’s quite plausible that matching the color would cost money, whereas the “easier” color might be cheaper.

Totally agreed. Money is the issue.

Jake’s explanation of the “linearity” of the new colors sounds reasonable

Doesn’t sound reasonable to me. Explained below.

[1], but it is probably more of a function of the linearity of the standardly available dyes. The design lab probably thought they were killing two birds with one stone, making the colors cheaper and as a by-product (supposedly) linearizing the color palette.

Agreed. The “linearity” esplanation - or should I say excuse - doesn’t make any sense. If it was so, why did LEGO stop that “linearity” now? Because of the AFOL whinning? Yeah, right... (1) Now what do we have? A color pallete in-a-process-of-linearization-wich-will-never-be-concluded. As it is, a definitely worst color pallete than before (2). Bah! If a “color linearity” was really intended, nothing would stop them!

Worst of all, is the impossibility to acquire new (new in the mold sense) parts in old colors; and in a few years, I’m afraid, if one wants to expand one’s castle/spaces/other modules it will be not too easy to find old colored parts in mint condition.

BTW, Jake once mentioned the possibility of LEGO still producing train track in old dark gray (forever, IIRC) to match with the existing track. Anyone knows any update to this?

[1] With how shifted toward blue the new colors seem, even this linearity explanation is suspect.

You’re right. How brazilian folks would say, put “suspect” on it!

(1) If LEGO really wanted to make anything for us regarding this issue, that would be, obviously, change the colors back. Anything else will be pills to calm us down (3) (and wow, how they do work...)

(2) The old was just fine, BTW!

(3) With fully respect for all the work and efforts put by the involved persons at LEGO, namely Jake, of course.
