It's hard to say. I think it's like the purple bus, a quality control
issue. I just stacked some bricks and plates from the red pod with some
bricks and plates from a martian set. You can easily see the pod hinges
are more pale than the rest. They look whitish to me. In good light I
can see the plates and bricks from pod have a slight orangy tint.
So that's the answer. Play with the bricks in the dark, or bad light.
You'll never notice the problem. :)

PS. Even though it's off topic for this group, we think the pods sets are
cool! And since they're self contained, they're easy to quarantine from
the true colors.
