I haven’t bought any of that set since before the color change. I was
wondering if anyone has bought that set recently, and if so, could you tell
me which shade of brown the pieces are?

I plan on buying 10-20 packs of this item in late October, if you can wait
that long for a reply. I’ll be using them either way, whether they’re new or
old brown.
My intuition tells me that they are still working from the initial run (old
brown) and haven’t re-run them. I think they were produced at a moment of
opportunity for TLG rather than as a planned pack. That is my own conclusion
and I have no official word on it. I’d imagine that when they sell out, that
will be all of that bulk pack. If it were a planned pack, I think we’d have
seen the same pack available in other colors.

I don’t mind the wait at all. I’m actually going to use the pieces on a MOC
that I’ll be showing in Febuary, plus I don’t have any extra LEGO money right
now. (Vikings are just around the corner, so I have to save my cash for that.)
I was pondering the same thing about the opportunistic nature of the 10046
set. It will be unfortunate when LEGO runs out of them, but it will be nice if
they’re only ever made in the true brown color.
