i think the thing you really need is more light.. i'd shoot for 100-watt or
brighter (and the equivalent in fluorescent).

this is why professional photoers spend thousands on complicated expensive
strobe lights and such, in an effort to match the endless beauty of sunlight.

i think any book on amateur color photo should be able to help, especially to
make sure the lights you use don't mess with the colors (come on lenny, that
was kinda obvious.. i know).

I shot these on a section of desk in my office.  I have a small space
cleared out right next to the window.  Light can be a serious problem, so I
use everything available here:
2 swingarm lamps right next to the area:
   1 has a 40-watt regular bulb
   1 has a 15-watt fluorescent bulb
Overhead fluorescents
A halogen torchiere across the room
Natural light from outside

Despite all the other light sources, the natural light is still a critical
part of this.  At night I can take passable shots... but not great ones.  On
a nice day, I can get great shots without needing much more than the natural
light.  This particular set I took on an overcast day- there was enough
filler light from outside, but I still needed everything else.

I'm trying to come up with a way to do this at home with only artificial
lighting and without sacrificing quality.  I'd like to have all my Lego on
hand and to not have to depend on daylight.

(...) Yes, perhaps if I got something bright enough then I could point it across the room to get more indirect lighting. As it is, either of the two swingarms will glare really badly if I point them where I really need the light. That's why I still (...) (23 years ago, 27-Nov-01, to lugnet.castle.org.cw)
