This represent some erroneous thinking in my view, or at least it suggests
an erroneous related conclusion -- err, something like that...
If TLC were to sell these accessory packs only to vocal fans on Lugnet you
would be undoubtedly correct in asserting that it might just be a drop in
the bucket. But I assert alternatively, that TLC should take our
suggestions from Lugnet and run with them to the greater marketplace -- not
just AFOL marketing (is there such a thing before the advent of the
"classic" line?), not just S@H, not just online, etc. They have a REAL
marketing problem on their hands in that they seem to not understand that
these ideas, like the "classic" line, need to be tossed into their overall
marketing strategy to every country and to every segment of their market. I
should be able to walk into any K-Mart and score a Pirate theme set!
Specialty toy stores, like TRU, should carry a full line of accessory
products -- I remember something like this from when I was a kid buying
stuff in Litchfield's Toys in Glendale, CA circa late the 1960s. Man, they
had it all!
I insist, and I think marketing people would back me up at least in this one
respect, that for every person who actually writes on Lugnet and says "Foo!"
there are hundreds, possibly thousands, who would do the same but simply
DON'T! That's human nature -- many remain silent. Many have rules of
bahavior that a nut like me just doesn't care about. So while I write, they
read and agree. Even amongst ourselves, there are persons that will remain
silent on all kinds of things just because that's how they are. Lot's of
people have written to me privately over time essentially stating that this
is so -- they wouldn't dream of posting here, but will write to me privately
to give me an "atta boy!" I bet my arch Lugnut nemesis Larry P. gets the
occasional "atta boy" too, probably fewer though (hehe)...
One last point, Lego is modular -- that's the only reason I like Lego over
stuff like Playmobile (drool! Have y'all seen their current catalogue?). I
don't have to have my hundreds of little Lego guys all dressed up for
medieval war every day -- I just want to be able to dress them up that way
should the "need" arise...!
"Onward, my miniature minions -- attack!"

Sure, they would get a load of orders imediately, but, it would die off quickly. I mean really, how many minifigs do (...) (23 years ago, 25-May-01, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.dear-lego)
