Hey guys,
I just wanted to rant about knights kingdom. First of all, there are no dragons
or ghosts anymore. Also, the new helmet looks like the minifig is wearing a plate

with the old design, because this new design requires you to position the
catapult practically right in front of or close to the castle.

Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your personal views on the theme.  There is
a lot to complain about with the theme.  However, there was a chrome set in
the theme with a dragon ... Dragon Rider

Maybe not flashy, but definitely affordable.

I thought the Castle for the theme downright sucked for single-use parts, that
were over-priced per piece, and the set lacked any realism.
(See Matt Hein's Review of said set here:
http://www.lugnet.com/~1112/Reviews/Archives/6098/ )

There was no "bad guy fortress", just a "MAD MAX"
(http://www.madmaxmovies.com/) style assault set
(Bulls Attack; http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6096).

And yes, I agree the Catapult design for the theme was very lacking...
hoorah for POOPs  (see http://www.lugnet.com/~88/acronym_faq/P)

One last big negative.  The theme lacked any type of realism.  The castle
was basicly built for looks, and not for any type of defense.  The royal
family, a knight, and a few soldiers defending against relentless hoards
of barbarians....right!

Here is some of the few positives.

The story-line was very cute and somewhat endearing to younger builders.  A
couragous princess and an aging monarch and his fairly young queen all trying to
stop the ambitious aims of an evil and barbarian-like clan leader, Cedric the
Bull, all with the help of the able knight, Richard the Strong and a few
select soldiers.

So a certain appeal to youngsters, and the castle did try to have some
action...like hitting the projectile (aka eye poker) into the castle to
expel the treasure.

You bash the design of the kettle helmet, but I think the kettle helmet
makes a nice Minifig castle accessory.  It was certainly used in midieval
Europe, especially in England and in France.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, Ben.

(...) Yet that's exactly the mix I preferred when I was 10. You have to let kids apply their own logic here, and they are not yet interested in "realism". However I don't think you could go wrong by making the castle look stronger. (21 years ago, 20-Jul-03, to lugnet.castle)
