Usage Question

Is there a way to zoom into a specific area or scroll around once zoomed in?
When ever I zoom in I get the center point of my model which may or may not
(in most cases) be the area I want to look at in detail.

(...) Before zooming select a part which should be the center after zooming, then from one of the panes which should be zoomed press CTRL + SHIFT then press the left mouse-button.
