IIRC, LDraw treats carriage returns just like any other whitespace, so
line wrapping in LDraw has no effect. However, this would probably lead
to problems with lines which truly contain errors (eg, not enough
orientation numbers)...

| (...) If a line doesn't have enough orientation numbers, LDraw will usually choke when it tries to treat the filename as a number. One important thing about LDraw and linebreaks: once it's read enough data to complete a command, LDraw ignores (...) (25 years ago, 11-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.mlcad)

It seems to me that if it encounters and error, it could attempt to remove the carriage return and see if it continues to load properly. I would think that would be very helpful, (...)
