???

It should write the "BrickDraw3D Preferences" file to /System
Folder/Preferences/ unless there is a Unix owner permission that won't let you.

At any rate delete the old file there - or move it someplace else
temporarily - then run BrickDraw3D to recreate the file. The resulting file
should work for BrickDraw3D.carbon if you put it in ~/Library/Preferences -
this is inside your Home folder.

When a Mac OS program asks "where is the preferences folder" it gets
different answers depending on the environment. Under native OS X (carbon or
otherwise) the answer is the folder under your user directory.

The essential thing about the preferences file is not the text you saw in
it, what counts is the invisible 'alis' type resource. If somehow the OS is
not able to make the resource, or is not copying the resource (does Unix cp
copy the resources?) the preferences file will be meaningless.

I'm sorry if the workaround still doesn't work for you -- there must be
some subtlety. At any rate I have just about cleaned up the Carbon version
and will release it this weekend or Monday. The rendering is MUCH cleaner
now too (the code is even cleaner - much necessary rewriting.)

(...) This didn't work. The classic copy of BrickDraw3D doesn't even save the preferences. It worked in Classic though. But, every time I launched it, I had to select the LDRAW folder. I tried this in Classic and I booted to OS 9 to see if it would (...) (22 years ago, 23-Nov-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)
