Question on Colors for MLCad!

Since many people are asking for the enhanced color dialog in MLCad I'm
planning to introduce it now. But before that I have some questions where I
hope you can answere them, and help me out:

1) In general there exist some predefined colors, in the range from 0 to  63
with 32 to 63 are transparent colors. As I understood valid colors go till
255. Some of the colors in the range from 0 to 63 are not defined, would it
be ok to let the user modify them?

2) There are edge colors and transparent colors, so each color has a
corresponding edge color and a an alpha channel value which says if the
color is transparent or not. Is there some sort of automatism which defines
the edge colors?

3) Should user defined colors be stored in the model or better independed
somewhere with the normal settings?

4) This is my suggestion for the new color dialog:
I add a scroll-bar to the right of the dialog where the user can select a
color range (e.g. 0-31 or 64-95 or 128-159 ...)
I make the transparent check box read only (so it displays the value of the
alpha channel value).
I add a button to define a new color, which is enabled only for undefined
colors (from the standard point of view) means colors you have defined still
can be modified. When this button is pressed another dialog will pop-up and
allow to define the RGB color values, a check-box to define if the color
should be transparent and (possibly) a number field for defining the edge
color number (To define the edge color the same way, is not possible due to
the methode how my program is dealing with colors, except you define a
unused color, than a second one and there you define the edge color as the
previous defined one, but you always need a number).

That was maybe a little bit much but I hope you can help me out with this
problem.

Regards
   Mike

(...) colors go (...) 0-15, 32-47, and 255-511 are LDraw-supported colors. There are a number of other colors < 100 supported by LDLite (check the documentation). LDLite also supports the COLOR meta command by which the user can custom define any (...) (25 years ago, 23-Sep-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
