Just as a note, I contacted Ludo via e-mail, and I am attempting to figure out
what is going on. Since I haven't made much progress, I'm still happy for
people to post suggestions here in this thread. Since he said it worked when
launched from the installer, I'm suspicious that the crash is happening when
LDView tries to show the "Open File" dialog, and I'm waiting for a response from
him on that.
It's very unclear why it would be crashing there, though. I looked at the code,
and the only bug I found turned out not to really be a bug. (It was calculating
a value wrong in a function, but the wrong calculation produced the same result
that the correct calculation would have produced.)
LDView shouldn't have any problem running from inside "Program Files" or
"Program Files (x86)". That's where I install it during testing, and I have UAC
enabled. (I had it enabled when my PC was Vista 32, and I still have it enabled
now that I have Win 7 64.) But Ludo, by all means try running it from a
directory inside your User directory.
