I have alot of respect for you guys that have been doing the minifig heads
the "old" way.  Even with the new tool (QUAD2DAT) it can be very frustrating
trying make the quads and tris for the patterns bend around the edges.

Chris,

Could you make QUAD2DAT have the cursor stop at the exact edge of a region
of a template.  This will stop people from making quads span 2 surfaces it
will also take the guess work out of the diagonal edges (minifig torso).
Maybe have this capability active only after the first point has been set.
I noticed that when creating my first mini fig head that if I got on a role
outlining I sometimes ignored the dotted lines.

I had thought of orginally constaining the cursor to within the region of a
template; but dismissed that on the grounds of using ,say, a 1-4ring primitive
that has the arc within the template but the center is not.
Kind of like coloring, be sure to stay inside the lines :-)
Its just a best_practices/education_of_the_tool sort of thing
that'll come with use of the program.  I do have on my TO DO list: internal
checking to flag polygons that span a couple of panels.

There is a way to define a point along a line (ie, the diagonal edge of a
torso, etc).  After selecting the polygon tool, do a right click and specify
the end points of the line.  This will constrain the cursor to that line for
that vertex.  Watch out for this bug, after creating the point along a line,
the Polygon Form doesn't always increment (yellow highlight) to the next vertex
- you'll have to click or press enter until you get to the next vertex you're
going to define.  The penalty if you forget is that a mouse indicate or vertex
snap for what you thought was the next vertex wipes out the values for the
along point that was just created.
I'll still wrestling with (i.e. trying to figure out) a way to get it to snap
along these dotted line panel edges.  For now use the along line method.
(Wasn't that in the manual or readme file?  :-o )

Also I would like to the following templates added (or the ability to define
my own):

4215.dat panel 1x4x3
30156.dat panel 4x6x6 sloped

For now, I'm stuck adding any requests for templates.
The way I've coded template definitions makes it a bit hard
to allow custom ones.  I've got some ideas, but low priority
for the moment.
I'll add those tonight and post the *.exe.

Franklin, I would like to do the rest of the line of torsos and heads (time allowing) from the adventurers sets. Your right I should probably finish the season one minifigs first. I'll take a shot at Harry (head and torso) and Slyboots (head) next. (...) (22 years ago, 12-Jun-02, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)
