A really dumb question...

While perusing the MOTM/SOTM rules I came upon this one:

"Model in an entry must be constructed of Lego®-type pieces. Unofficial or
mock-up pieces allowed if they are not yet included in the official part
releases."

I'm not sure if I'm reading it right (since it's the end of a very long
week).  Are unofficial pieces allowed?  Not clone.dats, of course, but how
about not-yet-canonical LDraw parts?  The wording of the second part of the
sentence makes me unsure.

Obtusely,
     Dave!
