I am pretty sure the solid stud variant only came with large ledge because
the reason they shortned the ledges was to allow the shutters to be
completely closed. And the shutters came in the early 70's, or at least
long after the solid studded windows era. I haven't seen any solid studs on
an ABS made window.

As I dont have any solid-stud classic windows, can anyone please clarify whether
these had the "top holes" between the outer pair of studs, to hold the glass in
place.

Sorry to take over 2 years to answer this, but I never visit lugnet.cad.....
Only the recent posts to this thread made me view the entire thread.

All solid stud windows are otherwise identical to the "long ledge" variety, and
that includes the holes in top.

However, the solid stud doors (right and left handle) have a door knob or handle
that is larger than those of all later classic doors.

In the future, if you crosspost any classic window/door questions to
Lugnet.general, your response will be much more timely!  :-)

OK, I was just studying the differences between the solid stud classic
windows/doors, and the hollow stud variety.  And I found another difference....

If you take hollow stud classic windows/doors, and lay them face down, you will
see that the "side walls" of the 1x3x2 and larger windows have thicker sidewalls
than the 1x1x1, 1x2x1, 1x1x2, 1x2x2 windows and the 1x2x3 doors.  The smaller
windows and the doors have thinner sidewalls, except at the base where they get
thicker (so as to attach properly to baseplates/bricks).  With the full stud
windows/doors, ALL sizes of windows (and the doors) have the thick sidewalls.

(...) Thanks, Gary, That has also been pointed out earlier, but since it doesn't affect the function or "behaviour" af the parts, those differences will be neglected in LDraw. /Tore (19 years ago, 20-Apr-06, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general)
