Converting Images to DAT? —Mike Walsh
I am looking for advice on converting images (custom stickers) to .dat so I can add them to my models and render them with POV. I am hoping to gain some insight from the collective LUGNET expertise in this area. I have used LDAO's BMP to DAT (...) (20 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad)

(...) You could try LDDP's BMP to DAT or the standalone BMP2DAT from Carsten Schmitz. -Orion (20 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad)

(...) How comfortable are you with POV-Ray? If you simply want to include the decal in a rendered image, and if you have a scan of the custom sticker, you could insert it directly into the POV-Ray file so that it's rendered along with the model.    (...) Dave!'s right about POV-Ray, the results will be far superior to what you get with BMP2DAT utilities. If you really want LDraw files of your stickers, your options depend on what format you used to create the stickers. And the style of the (...) (20 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Converting Images to DAT? —Dave Schuler
(...) I'm not at home, so I can't go through POV-Ray for the precise method, but here's what I'd suggest: 1. Make a note of which specific piece in the DAT model you want to emblazon with the rendered decal (let's say it's the 2x4 brick 3001.dat) 2. (...) (20 years ago, 5-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Nope, just Lars. The rest can go jump in a lake. Just kidding! Since I work almost exclusively with, shall we say, not-quite-official elements, I tend to overlook the efforts of those who've worked on the thousands of official parts, the (...) (20 years ago, 6-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Converting Images to DAT? —Steve Bliss
(...) Position the sticker in relation to one of the parts -- there's nothing in POV or LDraw that's going to clip the sticker at the edge of the associated part. Steve (20 years ago, 9-Aug-04, to lugnet.cad)
