To both reply to this post and the one mentionned by Didier about the
sturdyness, I noticed that if you put the 4 1x1 tiles stud out and in the
exact middle of the 2x2 tile then the building will be more sturdy than
putting the 1x1 tiles in the corner as in the picture above.
The groove of the 1x1 tiles will fit together perfectly and lock the 4 tiles
together. Of course you need to use the new 1x1 tiles with groove.
Then instead of using a new brick 2x2 that have a thin face but with two
little male groove, use a old 2x2 that have thick smooth face inside. It
will be quite difficult to push the top into the brick, and in fact you will
need to use a sharp stuff such a pen or a knife to remove the 1x1 tile from
the 2x2 brick.
But with these advices you will definitly be able to roll the cube as a dice!
PS: I never underestimate the usefulness of the new and old design of a same
part! :-)

I tried and I think that it is better to use 2 x 50746 slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3
(http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/50746) instead of 4 x 1x1 tiles
