What were you outrunning?

A rabid ostrich.

Oh, my, no. Certainly not.

Darn ostriches.

Anyway, about the cube itself: Very cool! All of your designs blow me away by themselves, and the cube is a great way to display them, as well.

Thanks. The only bad thing about the cube as a display mechanism is that it fails to show off one of the coolest features of these headlight mosaics: that they look great from either side. The best way to display 2D headlight moasics is probably to just stand them up vertically, or figure out a way to hang them from the ceiling so that both sides are in view.

As for the corners--although it would ruin your all-headlight design, you might be able to use this brick for a slightly smoother look. But maybe not; I haven’t (yet!) raided my headlight stock to try out some of your designs, so I don’t know how well it would work in practice.

That type brick would work just as well -- using the same configuration I used for the headlight bricks on the edges, but I don’t think it adds any smoothness to the look of it. The perceptive difference would only be slight. Each edge would still alternate between looking at the bottom of that brick and the side with the hole in it, just like with the headlight bricks, only the hole in the technic brick is larger. Neither solution allows slapping on the 1x8 tiles for total smoothness.

Of course, maybe someone else can come up with a smoother design for the cube edges using some piece or technique I haven’t thought of...

(...) The cube does offer a possibility that a single plate doesn't. You could remove the top three panels and view the lower three panels from both sides. With a sufficiently stable base, you could even use it as a candy dish. (...) Try putting 1x1 (...) (21 years ago, 2-Jul-03, to lugnet.build.mosaic, FTX)
