All,
I've got a pretty big (5x8 48 stud baseplate) mosaic that needs
to be on permanent display at our local hospital.
There is an acrylic panel in front to keep little fingers from
prying the 1x1s off, but it reduces the tactile feel :-(
Anyways, we have a large plywood substrate for the mosaic, but
the carpet tape we've been using has begun to peel and the panels
are moving around.
Is there a better way to attach really large mosaics to substrates?
I can't attach the baseplatesplates to each other with 2x2s or larger
parts because the image isn't suited for that....
Here's the image. Thanks again to Steve Barille and Jake McKee!

I'm about 6'2" so you can see its a pretty big mosaic. If you're
busy calculating, I'll save you the trouble.
92,200 pcs to be exact!
Cheers, Ralph

| (...) How permanent is permanent? If it's REALLY permanent, just glue the baseplates down with a little adhesive. I'm sure there's something out there that sticks to both wood and plastic. Adrian (20 years ago, 22-Oct-04, to lugnet.build.mosaic)

If you are not worried about recovering the baseplates later on then I would use a construction adhesive. PL300. Its for securing (...) (20 years ago, 22-Oct-04, to lugnet.build.mosaic)

| Ralph, I made a mosaic about that size this year. Here are my suggestions. First, I attached the baseplates to a wood backing (8'x6') using extra strengh liquid nails. I had experimented with it using a smaller baseplate and a piece of wood. After (...) (20 years ago, 23-Oct-04, to lugnet.build.mosaic)
