It works out to the right height, and even though the posts are
a bit chunky, it looks pretty good--it takes the kinks out of the
rails I used last year, fortunately, and I think it will be a lot
more stable if I stagger the straw lengths across the long (~300
  stud) deck lengths.

That images is a little bright--can you darken it up a bit?

Otherwise, that looks really cool.  Since I'm a big fan of apocryphal
construction toy materials, I've actually purchased 1/8" styrene stock from
the local hobby shop and fed it through a bunch of 1x1 plate with clip light
(or whatever) to similar, but not equal, effect.  For some dumb reason I
hadn't thought of using the straws, but that looks great (though dim)!

Wait, is it too bright, or too dim?  I'm a bit confused as to what
   you're asking me.

But yeah, I've thought about the sheet styrene angle, and I decided
against it--I'm a purist at heart.  It's hard enough for me to even
cut the straws, though that's intended for some models!

LFB (who's waiting on the last 100 megabricks to get this thing
       underway...)

You mean MegaBloks, right?  8^)

No.  As with Friedrich der Grosse, the entire vessel will be 100%
LEGO. Megabricks = 8x16 dark grey bricks.  I estimate that I need
about 135 total for the hull base--I'm not planning at this stage
to use baseplates, because I want the ship to open lengthwise as
well as in sections.  I'm not sure what the ultimate result in terms
of hull stability will be, however.

Thanks for the feedback muchly--I'll see about image tweaking once
I know what it is you want.  :)

   best

(...) Hmm--now I'm confused. When I looked yesterday, the image seemed strangely dark and difficult to see clearly. Now it's still darkish, but I can see it pretty well. I suspect some sort of elaborate plot to keep me from viewing your (...) (23 years ago, 16-May-02, to lugnet.build, lugnet.build.military)
