Hi,

I've put together my first WWII moc, a Heinkel He219 nightfighter
(German).  The He219 was a high-performance twin-engine fighter that debuted
in 1943.

Wow, nice to see another WWII airplane, especially a rather uncommon one.
Good MOC, you nailed the pencil thin fuselage, though once again the canopy
is tricky. Did the old TV antenna's come in grey? That would look great,
though I have no idea what they go for.

The old antennae do indeed come in grey - though I couldn't tell you what set,
or what they're ging for now.  I was thinking the same thing, they would be a
perfect representation of the aerials in the front.

Great plane, Gary!  Somewhere recently I read something about those 60-degree
top-mounted guns, though for the life of me I can't recall the source.
Definitely a nasty idea, given how vulnerable the bombers were (I haven't read
the whole book yet, but Stephen Ambrose refers to the fact that one could
pierce the side of a B24 with a knife in _The Wild Blue_).

The embedded insignia on the wings looks fantastic as well.

On the rerun episode of The Simpsons last night, Homer was watching a show on
TV depicting a Stuka dive bombing.  To which he sits back and says "Ahhh, the
Luftwaffe ... The Washington Generals of yesteryear", or something to that
effect.  Besides being comical in the inane sense, given Homer's vast lack of
*any* knowledge whatsoever, it also had a deeper biting (retrospective) humor,
especially considering the Luftwaffe's blundering and overly-politicized
command structure and decision-making during the war.  Matt Greoning is, IMHO,
the most incisive political commentator on the scene, well hidden in the guise
of an animated humorist.  :P [1]

At this rate, we'll rate a full .military room at Brikfest 2002!

(...) Thanks guys. Yeah, I thought how killer those antennae would look, didn't have any available though :( If I can dredge any up, I'll be sure to try them out. I just got some parts in from BrickBay, so I'm overhaulling the front end tonight. (...) (23 years ago, 14-Nov-01, to lugnet.build.military)
