Ralph,

Hi Magnus.
Indeed, It does look like a cross between a Comanche and a Cobra. The
retractable landing skids are a nifty touch. I doubt that's ever been done on a
real helicopter, but it looks good. The overall model is nicely proportioned and
I really like the fenestron-type tail rotor Quite a few people build futuristic
looking helicopter gunships, but seem to forget adding something to counter the
torque. I also like the nose-mounted canon. Using a ball-joint for that is a
clever idea. It's a very nice model.

The camouflage is a bit tricky. I've tried camouflage on a few of my models and
it's hard to make it look right. IMHO, on your gunship it looks just a bit too
stripy, if you know what I mean. It try to build camouflage in big splotches of
one colour, with relatively smooth edges (as far as that is possible with
rectangular bricks).
One example that I am particularly happy with is my Flanker:

It isn't too uncommon for the undersides of helicopters to be lighter than the
top, even if the US military doesn't seem to do it very often anymore, so that's
just fine.

Cheers,
Ralph

Thanks for your kind words! You do camo very nicely. I think the problem with
this chopper is that there are too many colors being used and there isn't as
much space to spread them out over, as there is on say the top of a fighter
plane. It's nice to have so many new pieces, but when they are only available in
certain colors it makes it hard to get MOCs to look quite right. I guess I could
have done the chopper in black - maybe another time?

cheers

Magnus

(...) Hi Magnus, Indeed, camouflage is harder to do on a small model with complex shapes. Large flat areas are relatively easy. In that case limiting the number of colours is a good idea. That simplifies matters somewhat. I agree that certain parts (...) (17 years ago, 26-Jul-07, to lugnet.build.military)
