Robert,
The US seems to have moved away from having lighter undersides on both planes
and choppers (perhaps because so many missions are at night) but I've seen a
number of Russian helicopters with lighter undersides.
I'd guess that it has less to do with making the aircraft harder to see, and
more to do with making it just that little bit harder to track and hit if you're
firing at it, but who knows?
