Cross-posted from LEGO Military:

I recently attended Brick World and I was really impressed with the
city battle. There were many Mechs and AFV's. For some time I have
been interested in doing AFV's. The cost of buying mass amounts of
separate links is not appealling. However, I see that there are a
couple of new sets that are coming out with track links which will
help. For now, I will start with wheeled and complete track AFV's.

I need help in getting started. To me, there are 3 types of AFV's:
wheeled, tracked with individual links such as #3711, and complete
tracks such as #x203.

For both versions, what wheel is used for the wheeled version as well
as the tracked version?

I have seen many photos of LEGO AFV's, but none show how the wheels
are placed. Are they placed below the bottom plate as with part
#2444 or used with other parts and located within the construction
of the side underframe.

What I think we nubees need is a set of instructions for beginners
walking us through a 'standard' tank using the different track
segments, and then sample variations for building chassis and turrets.
Once we learn the basics of making AFV's, then we will be able to create
AFV's based on our own designs or likes.

Comments?? Is there anyone willing to get new AFOL's into this part
of the hobby? I suppose the files section on this newsgroup could be
used as Brickshelf is shutting down.

Help... Don

(...) Don, Brickmania, (URL) should have a link to instructions for a Panzer V Panther Tank (the link is down now, it might be up later). Thanks, George (17 years ago, 20-Jul-07, to lugnet.build.military)

Don, Take a look at my BS folder to see how I've used different tracks and wheels on different vehicles. (URL) with almost all things LEGO, there is no "one size fits all" solution that works for everything. I've experimented with various track (...) (17 years ago, 22-Jul-07, to lugnet.build.military)
