In the past I had made a few tracked tanks and APCs. I didn't have enough of
the track pieces so I had to fill in a few gaps with the really thin chain
type. It didn't look good at all, but it was all I could do. Too bad I never
took any pics of them, they were pretty cool.
I ordered a 2 sets of the wider track not long ago from Pitsco Dacta. They
are pretty expensive, I think 7 bucks for a set. (Plus postage of course) I
don't remember how many links were in each set, but I'd say you would need
at least three, probably four, sets to make the tracks for a single largish
tank.
Shaun, I totally love the tank! Is it built to scale heightwise with a
minifig? I don't know high the German WWII tanks were, but I know from
experience that it is hard to build a minifig scale tank without making it
too high off the ground.
I like how you built the turret, it hadn't occured to me to do it that way
before, I had always used a technic turntable before. There is space for a
minifig to "sit" insid ethe turntable, but really there isn't the space I
would need optimally.

Yeah, one time in a post I figured out exactly how many tread links I used (it may even be in this thread somewhere, if not it was a resulting one) - I recall that the person asking the question was aghast at the notion that they'd be spending (...)
