Hi Justin,
Thanks for the comments. Many people have mentioned the aircraft's nose. The
nose on any jet is a very hard bit to get right (just look at LEGO's new Boeing
787 and you'll see what I mean). I have quite a few of those curved wedges, but
really haven't gotten used to using them yet. I suppose that I am a bit of an
old-fashioned builder in the sense that I would tend to make curved shapes with
plates or regular slopes. All my other aircraft were built like that. However, a
couple of weeks ago the thought that these wedges were perfect for the F-16 hit
me all of a sudden and I built the nose straight away. I had already built the
aircraft's tailfin in order to see whether the camouflage would work, so the
nose was actually the second bit I built. The landing gear, which I myself am
very happy with as well, came third. Then it took several weeks before I
started actually building the rest of the aircraft.
On the USAF: I know you were kidding, but I probably wouldn't build it in USAF
markings anyway. If anything, I would have liked to build it in Dutch AF
markings (being from The Netherlands myself), which are very similar to the
USAF's, but I don't have enough medium stone/ old grey available.
Cheers,
Ralph

| Impressive build. I especially like your solution to the nose, which seems to be a sticking point for so many. You also pulled off a camoflage look very well (something I doubt I'll ever be brave enough to try, piece limit or no), and as mentioned (...) (18 years ago, 27-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)
