GRRRR!  Upstaged again...  I too have been experimenting with 3-D lifting
body shapes that don't suffer from the "jaggies."  I wanted to be the first
to display one, and you've beaten me to the punch.

Well, I don't think being first means much - the reward is all in the
execution of each model. I'll be interested to see what you come up with
for your lifting bodies. I'm sure there will be some new ideas that will
inspire me to improve my model.

No, yours is *great* the way it is!

However, my approach to the problem of a lifting body is quite different.  You
may find it interesting, even if you don't use the ideas to improve your model.

How's the mechanical strength of your Stealth fighter model?  I've managed to
assemble some very interesting shapes, but parts of these shapes are held
together by only a few studs (at leat initially).  It's really easy to implode
things when I'm working on them.

I'll have to admit though, I kind of enjoyed flying this project "under
the radar screens" so to speak. It made me feel like I was working on a
Skunkworks-type project - lots of secrecy, seemingly impossible
requirements, trying to brainstorm brick engineering breakthroughs... it
was rather fun at times - and occasionally frustrating.

Also note I didn't keep the Nighthawk design a complete secret either -
I did drop a few low quality teaser photos on Brickshelf from time to
time to reward those paying close attention! hehe :)

I spend a lot more time on Lugnet than on Brickshelf.  Shame on me.

(...) The stiffness of the model seems OK. I can pick it up by the wings which seems to be the natural way to handle it anyway. I didn't reinforce the side engine intakes because I didn't want to tie everything down while I was still moving (...) (23 years ago, 13-Sep-01, to lugnet.build.military)
