It will be a large model (but still smaller than my space shuttle) I
have tons of black parts leftover. When you have no idea how you are
going to build something, you always end up ordering lots of parts just
to simply experiment with.

Originally I had them place back to back on 2x2 bricks with technic pins
connecting the bricks - but this left a visible gap. I asked around
Lugnet, and someone posted a brilliant solution to hold the bricks
together internally with 1x2 panels - which made the wedge seamless.
Heh... I saw that post too... so THAT's what you wanted the solution for!

Even the Skunkworks has to contract outside help sometimes! :)
