  Re: Brickfest

(...) Hi Bruce, Okay, let me see if I can shed some light on this........ First of all, I agree it's a great folder of the Micros for BrickFest. (...) Funny you should say that, because that Train Station was built by Paul Janssen and that *did* win (...) (20 years ago, 3-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale)

(...) Damn Joe! That is one sweet version of my favorite vessel. I can't wait to see the large version. Dan Sabath Card Carrying Marine Biologist (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) Good suggestion, Let me fix that tonight! Thanks! Joe (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

Hey Joe, The boat is great and I love love LOVE that helicopter. My only suggestion (and this a minor one) is that I think that a 1x4 tile would be better as the helicopter rotor than the 1x4 plate. Great work! Bruce (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) I was actually referring to the tiny, micro-micro scissors Joe built, sitting on the aft portside deck. :) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) Sorry, Gil. Calypso was a refitted minesweeper, not a cutter. ;-) James Wilson Dallas, TX (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

Joe, I really like your rendition of Calypso. I remember watching "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" as a kid - that model brought back memories. And the overall playability reminds me of the (gasp) Tente ships I had as a kid, too. Play on! (...) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) Cool! The cutter shape you've coaxed out of the plates is perfect and using the 1x1 smoke tiles looks amazing. My fave part...the little sea 'copter. How fun is that? Looks like a delicious candy I could eat. Great build Joe...sell the design (...) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) Thanks! The real thing will be a minifig scale version (which will be ridiculously big, of course)...and it will be a while in planning and building. And the chopper was one of the fun side projects! Joe (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) I think he knew that with the reference to how John Denver died in an experimental plane crash... (...) I love the boat! There ate two ships that, since I was a kid, I've really really appreciated--One is the 'Big Canoe', the other is the (...) (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) Um, I think you'll find that John Denver wrote them. Very nice boat though. If this is just a 'proof of concept' I look forward to the real thing (is it going to be minifig scale, or another microscale one? Add another vote of approval for the (...) Snif!.... a tear came to my eye... very nice ship, very nice feel. I love the yellow chopper, very nice use of the minifig transparent head for the canopy! JP. (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) (snip) I love that shot!!! Micros look so awesome when shot from the figs perspective. (...) Well I think it's wonderful. Nicely played Joe, excellent micro ship, with amazing details and styling. Janey "Red Brick" (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  Re: Calypso...

(...) (snip) (...) Cool boat, Joe! And those lyrics! You could be a songwriter furshur! Just be careful flying those experimental airplanes;-) JOHN (20 years ago, 2-Sep-04, to lugnet.build.microscale, FTX)

  More on Micro-scale defintions

To see such discussion on the attributes and definitions of micro-scale is quite exciting. I decided to open up my PowerPoint on the topic and see how I originally defined it. "Microfig--anything smaller than minifig scale. May assume that a person (...) (20 years ago, 26-Aug-04, to lugnet.build.microscale)

  Re: Definition of "micro"

(...) Okay. We'll simply call them "sub-mini-super-micro figs." :) For instance, (URL) these tiny astronauts> or (URL) my tiny Starfleet figures>. And what exactly is "stickfig?" (...) Yes.   Re: Definition of "micro"

(...) Yes! This is exactly the point I touched upon in my WTC design paper(1). I've dubbed this type of technique as "mind's eye modeling", which I describe as "creating a model that visually matches or exceeds what a typical person expects to see. (...)
