a ripoff? Any infor would be appreciated!

Hasbro simply licensed the toy from Bandai, if I remember correctly.  The
Bandi logo is visible in several places on the plastic.  This was vaguely
scandelous at the time, since Bandi was the primary manufacturer for the
Go-Bots, the main competitor to Transformers in the U.S.  Most of the other
Transformer toys were licensed from another manufacturer, I forget which.

P.S. Does anyone have information on the motorcyle / mech suits for the
humans?

Mmmmm, Cyclones.  Tres cool.  They were the primary mobile infantry unit in
Mospeada / Robotech Southern Cross.  If anyone can come up with one of these
for a minifig or Technic maxifig, I want to know!  :-,
