Hey, Where have John Carrol and Mark Sandlin been? Two of my Fav Mecha

For that matter, is ANYBODY out there?  I can count the regulars on one hand.
Or is everybody lurking? /:-(

Midterms, papers, Lab write-ups, etc. make Lego related activities difficult to
persue for me.  I usually procrastinate by picking up the Lego.  It goes like
this:

1) "All right!  Time to get down to work.  But let me check Lugnet first..."
2) "Oh, hey, (Mladen, Brian Cooper, Mark Neumann, Jeff Ranjo, etc.) has
something new out - let me check it out...oh, check out how they used that
part!"
3)"Gotta post to tell them how cool that is...now got to go to hotmail to
verify...man the way they used that part ruled!"
4) "Hmmm, I wonder if I can build that thing with the parts here in my desk
drawer...oh, that give me an idea!  I can use that technique, but modify it,
then I can solve the problem I've been having with..."
5) "Dang, I don't have the part in the drawer, gotta open the trunks..."

Then, about seven hours later, when the caffeine that was intended for the
paper wears off... you get the picture.  So, I figured that during these high
schoolwork density times, it's best to avoid Lugnet.

But Wednesday's I usually take some time off; and since I just finish a midterm
and a paper, I thought I would catch up on the haps here...(plus I always watch
"Enterprise" on Wed. night).

Jeff, good stuff!  Eric, you gonna build a sorting mecha to sort each color
(blue sorts blue, etc.)  Ironically, you could probably actually build a
sorting mecha that sorts by color via Mindstorms and two Light sensors...

As for me, I've been working on an ongoing project which currently awaits some
Bricklink orders.  I'm dying to get my hands on those new Super Battle Droid
parts; the color sucks, but at least I can get started on something until the
Bohrok queens come out w/ that part in dk. Grey.  Besides that, I've been
spending all of my money on Valkyries:

The rear one is a 17 year old Jetfire; the two middle ones are the Bandai
re-releases, and the front one is the Yamato version.  The Yamato one looks
pretty great in terms of sculpting, but the paintjob isn't that great (i.e. not
powdercoated) and the plastic is kind of cheap.  The articulation isn't "all
that", as the Macross World people claim it is, and the legs flop around when
it is being held in robot mode.  All in all, it's a great model, and I'm glad I
have one, but I wouldn't buy a second one.  The Bandai rerelease is, well, a
good, solid toy, exactly what we mid-twenties fans remember. Plus the gun
actually shoots missiles, unlike the "Child-safe" versions that were sold in
the U.S.  The paintjob is superb, complete with warning text messages by the
exhaust, etc.  And plenty of die-cast metal, too!  (If toys don't have die-cast
metal in them anymore because it make toys cost-prohibitive, why do the
re-releases have them?  And what component of the die-cast metal increased in
price so much in 15 years that it's now "Cost Prohibitive"?)  I plan one buying
at least one of every version of these that gets rereleased ;-)

Oh, getting off-topic.  Just wanted to give a brief opinion on these in case
any of you mecha heads were thinking of buying one of these... completely IMO,
of course...

All right, back into the darkness for me...

Later, Chris

Jeff
