is 04 an upgrade of B (Black, 02) or a new Gundam?

It is spiritually a reincarnation and technically all new,
in the same way gundams tended to be destroyed and rebuilt
with new technology in Gundam Wing.

Ha ha ha ha!  Very well said!

P.S.
I still hope that you will try building a larger Gundam one day.  I think you
will enjoy the challenge since you will have to change your inner skeleton
system to account for the extra weight.

Yes but then it wouldn't be minifig scale.
A custom mobile armor unit of some type would be
bigger than a gundam and require a new technoskeleton.
That's a possibility.

How about this: I will try to build a Gundam that is 2 - 2 1/2 ft like a Dark
Gundam and you will build a 4ft Gundam like the Zero (or just the skeleton)?
Then we can get the Legomaster to finish his 6 footer (provided he is still
working on it).
