Building my first Mecha with an RCX - advice please?

Hi, I am about to embark on building my very first Mecha and intend to incorporate the Mindstorms RCX unit (with motors/light sensor/etc.). Does anyone have some advice they can offer? Should a Mech use bi-ped walking or wheels? Are there some sites (...) (23 years ago, 11-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Very cool. (...) I'd think bi-pedal would be a tough thing, dealing with balance and all. 3+ legs would help, if you really want it to walk. I'm not a huge fan of wheels, how about tank treads? That would be cool, and easy to control w/ just (...) (23 years ago, 11-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Yes very cool. (...) um,.......what part of the Mech do you want the 3 motor ports to control? how dow you want the sensors to fit into the design? (...) Are you familiar with these? www.brickshelf.com/c...Legomaster (...) Eric Oh, thanks (...) (23 years ago, 12-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Thanks - let's wait and see how I go. (...) I guess that primarily two of the motors would handle the legs or wheels for direction. Next I'd have at least one motor to raise or lower arms. Of course I hadn't forgotten the head - so I'd use a (...) (23 years ago, 12-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) Hard long thought... ... my creative side says "The Head" but my technical side says "The Legs" - you gotta walk before you can run (and hunt and kill and destroy). As I am now on 2 weeks leave I'll have some time to get started. Watch this (...) (23 years ago, 13-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Sounds good, I look foward to seeing what you come up with, I hope others will be inspired by your efforts. I also hope that you will share progress pix either privately or elsewhere. There is so much you can do with what you have, this will be fun. (...) (23 years ago, 13-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Edward, (...) You may find this site of interest: (URL) site's dedicated to RCX-driven bi-peds of all shapes and sizes. Some are rather humanoid, which is what I suspect you want, but some are more tank-like, which, to my mind, anyway, still qualify (...) (23 years ago, 14-Jul-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
