I don't think LEGO would like the fact that
99% of the mecha you see posted are created specifically for war. We would
have to come up with some non-violent gimmick to sell them, and quite
frankly, I like having large beam cannon and missile swarms.

I would have agreed with this, if it weren't for Bionicles.
These aren't pacifist machines. They look like the result of some
marketing study that concluded "kids like fighting robots".
There are other new products in their line up with the same concept.

I agree with you. I think LEGO is rationalizing it by calling their weapons
"tools" which they apparently use to help them get around their native
lands... or something. Whatever. We all know they're fighting robot things,
so why not bite the bullet and make some real mecha-type things?

I think it's true that kids would totally dig it, but I think part of the
current problem is that you have to buy lots of different sets to be able to
build even one decently sized mecha.  And even one of the average mecha that
one of us builds would make for a pretty expensive set.

It doesn't take a lot of standard StarWars derived parts to make a quality
small mech, just a good feel for the genre, an eye for design.

I agree with you here as well, but for LEGO to do a decent job of it, I
think the sets would tend to be rather expensive.
