I think that would be lots of fun. We'd have to call it something else
because FASA copyrighted the term "mech" for their Battletech game.

You'd think lego corporate would be interested in a
futuristic/forward thinking slant that could help sell their product and
would sponsor something like this.

No, I don't think they would. I don't think LEGO would like the fact that
99% of the mecha you see posted are created specifically for war. We would
have to come up with some non-violent gimmick to sell them, and quite
frankly, I like having large beam cannon and missile swarms.

Yeah, lego train displays are fun, but they are a quaint thing of the past.

Trains have been a very popular hobby, and continue to be so.

When kids see what cutting edge stuff
they can really do with these plastic parts they'll want more, a lot more.

I think it's true that kids would totally dig it, but I think part of the
current problem is that you have to buy lots of different sets to be able to
build even one decently sized mecha.  And even one of the average mecha that
one of us builds would make for a pretty expensive set.

I like your idea. I think Mecha are very hot right now. I think kids like
them. I don't think LEGO is going to implement them in a way that kids are
going to get excited about... kids like the beam cannon and missile swarms
too. They generally don't get too excited over "rescue action" or whatever
non-violent gimmick LEGO would have to create.

(...) I would have agreed with this, if it weren't for Bionicles. These aren't pacifist machines. They look like the result of some marketing study that concluded "kids like fighting robots".
