As some of you know Ive been building mostly Bionicle stuff the last couple
years. I know its the lil red haired stepchild of the Lego community but
whatever; Im sure you can get over it.

Thanks to you and many other great builders, a healthy does of eye opener has
been handed down.

Anyhoo BZPower (a Bionicle duh fan based website) is holding an invitaional
contest of the past 24 winners in the BBCs (Bionicle Based Creations)
monthly (more or less) contest.
|
Awesome! Contest of Champions!
Amazing pictures!
OOOOOooooooohhhhh!
|
For the really adventurous heres a link to my topic
specifically:http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=168337&st=0
IMO the head is hokey but with time restrictions and all...
This is my entrys text on BZPower. My Lugnet comments are in itallics:
Backstory: Its a younger crowd. They like a lil story.
Deep inside the broken entrails of the Mozabukabuka lives Makitsu, the real
spirit of all that is evil in Mata Nui. His feeding tubes or roots extend all
over the island. They absorb every evil acts etheral substance and feed
Makitsu. Although he is currently weak after losing several major battles
with the Toa he is still very much alive...waiting...feeding...growing...
|
whoa.
|
Concept: This would be more what I would write for this crowd
I wanted to make a model which would be seen in the context of its
environment. I also wanted to give a sense of atmospere. As usual this
involved foreboding and mood and a sense of impending danger.
|
You did it!
|
To this end I built a structure to house Makitsu. He is connected to the back
via a sort of snake body. His red armor was inspired by Draculas armor in
Bram Stokes Dracula. I listened to the musical score for inspiration.
Makitsus arms and body are supposed to be somewhat unformed due to the
decrease of evil on Mata Nui, so I have the spine showing. Also the arms are
sinew and small bits of muscle rather than fully formed.
|
Oh yes, Dracs armour was really cool heh? Good choice. I remember the cladded,
scale look, like wearing dragon skin.
|
The structure proper, The Rack, is obviously inspired by Gieger, the German
artist. I wanted to make a very textured, very evil looking form. In looking
at some of Giegers work I decided to stress the flow of forms in my Lego. I
purposely attempted to flow from organic to industrial looking forms.
|
Wow! Zillions of cool shapes, textures and cool parts combinations.
|
Trying to show the curves and overall shape via photographs was very
difficult. Ive often struggles with getting my creations to come across with
photographs but this one was by far the most difficult Ive done. Getting the
snake body connection to show was the hardest part.
|
When looking at the pics, I get the idea you are trying to convey, more so now
after reading your words. I think the idea comes accross. Very well done. More
goofy pics please though.
|
Stats: (because I know you guys will ask ) again for the BZ members. They
always want to know... About 100+ Haus
Just over 500 Onua Claws
Approx 125 Squid Tails
Approx 60 hours build time
|
Amazing! The parts compliment eachother, nice use of 3rd colors to highlight.
Clips, joints and more. Eye candy and nightmares all in one.
|
Thanks Ninjo and BR for having the contest (and especially making it
freebuild )Ninjo and BR are admin on the website. A freebuild is a build
with no restrictions like height or theme
And Id like to thank Ray and Justin for their time and photography
equipment. I couldnt have gotten good pics without you guys!
|
Thank you to all of them too!
