   I still can’t quite figure out some of it-- just above the little row of hard-plastic tires in this picture (and all throughout the MOC): http://brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1115175 It looks like there’s some sort of cord, laced with protruding short axles, which spirals around various bits. Are those indeed tons of 4-long axles or something? If not, what ARE they? If so, how do they attach? Very cool effect, however you managed it.

Are you talking about the tan bits? If so those are wings that you can see through the “holes”. If you’re talking about the axles those are ball socket (Toa arms) parts fanning out from behind (think ribcage). The cylinder parts are rocket cylinders with a straw run through the middle.

Really what sucks is that pictures don’t really show the depth and overall form very well. And some of the details are simply lost :-(
