  Re: What's up?!?

(...) You've got cold weather where you are? Lucky dog. and going ahead with my large mecha, which I have been puting off (...) Large? How large? Who else has large? Come on, put 'em up, put 'em up... stuart (23 years ago, 30-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: What's up - plate hinge stiffening...

(...) How do you measure that kind of thing, anyway? I mean, I believe you, I do.... But that is a sweet idea. I've found that those hinges are (perhaps like all things) more fragile in their manufacture now than they were, oh, fifteen years ago. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: What's up - plate hinge stiffening...

Very clever Dr. Snead! That little slit just needs that wire huh...interesting! Another anadote (sp?) from the Dr.! So, you were able to get those poses using that technique, pretty neat. I always thought that your Mechs are so highly polished they (...) (23 years ago, 30-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: What's up?!?

Re: What's up - plate hinge stiffening...

I've found that putting paper between the two pieces stiffens the joint nicely. However, I suspect your method allows for a greater weight load. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: The Elemechaphant still rocks!

Great stuff, Eric. @8^) I'm not really a fan of mecha, but nevertheless, your work just blows me away. And this one's right up my alley. Nice. (...) I am both running and hiding from your new creation. -The Rev. Brendan Powell Smith (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: What's up?!?

(...) Dude, that pic reminds me of the opening scene of "Terminator 2", where the skull is all in the fire... And are those witch hats I see being used as horns?!? Off the HOOK!!!! Can't wait to see the rest... Later, Chris (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: What's up - plate hinge stiffening...

(...) I've been working on a couple of things. Mostly, doing more R&D on joint systems. Here's a new (?) way to stiffen those 1x4 plate hinges: 1) Find yourself som wire. My guess is that it should be between 20 and 18 gauge wire. I don't know for (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: What's up?!?

Thanks to the efforts of Mark Sandlin and Chirs, I've been inspired to build a light mecha. I have to flesh out the arms and built the legs. It should be finished later this week. After that, I'm going to work on my dragon. (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: My First Mech

Thanks Mark. Well, we haven't had our game yet (it's not until the middle of next month - I'm notoriously lax in having my forces ready in time, so I'm starting early). When we do, there should be a fair amount of pics. I thought about using hinges (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.gaming)

  Re: My First Mech

I thought this was a fine first mech. The next few things you might want to work on is softening up the edges a little bit, and make the legs a little more mobile. Legs that are perpetually stuck facing straight forwards give a mech a strange look I (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.gaming)
