Re: UFO clear and gray pieces - Are they useful for emulating architectural features?

Interesting. You succeeded in using them in a merry-go-round like I wanted to originally (but failed). Interestingly enough, I gave up because I couldn't come up with a convincing base. You solved the problem with curved Belville plates. Very nice! (...) (25 years ago, 9-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)

Neat. I like his curved walls. I haven't really been able to get the curve technique to work yet. Pawel Nazarewicz <verneer@utk.edu> wrote in message news:Fr37GL.F1F@lugnet.com... (...) half-way (...) (URL) (...) (25 years ago, 9-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)

  Re: Eiffel Tower

Henry, Thanks for coming by to see my Eiffel Tower in person and for posting the message on Lugnet. The round plates where necessary because the width of the tower changes from an even number to an odd number, back to even and then odd. I had hoped (...)   Re: UFO clear and gray pieces - Are they useful for emulating architectural features?

(...) Kind of funny that you should bring this up about the UFO hulls. I just purchased an alien avenger 6975 today at a great clearance price at ShopKo. Regularly $59.99 I got it for an astounding $7.99!!!!! To bad it was the only one left or I (...) (25 years ago, 9-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)

Re: UFO clear and gray pieces - Are they useful for emulating architectural features?

This is really my last post today, I just have to answer this! Yes! Eric Brok made excellent and creative use of the UFO pieces which lots of people shamelessly copied later (me included... need more UFO hulls...) Check them out, under 'buildings' (...)   UFO clear and gray pieces - Are they useful for emulating architectural features?

When the UFO stuff first came out, I scoffed at them (because I'm more into town than space). However, I decided that I wanted to build a merry-go-round and the circular pieces would make a good top. So, I bought two UFO sets. I never was able to (...) (25 years ago, 8-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)

  Re: Eiffel Tower

Rick Nice pictures. And thanks for letting me see this cool model firsthand. It's a brilliant use of stacked 1x1s. I especially like the use of 1x1 round plates stuck in the middle of four studs to get a tighter indentation. I also marvel at the (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)

I have used up quite a bit of my log pieces in a couple of my Market builings but I might have enough for a small building. I (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.build.arch)

Re: Several New Buildings added to my Site...

I like your "generic building." It's very tight with nice color coordination. On the gate house, it does seem a bit plain. You could consider adding a fancier roof or make the top look like an add-on structure in a different color. On my castle, I (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.castle, lugnet.build.arch)

Hi eric, I'd like to comment on a job well done! I love your city wall and gatehouse, as I mentioned earlier the use of slopes gives it a powerful touch.   Re: Eiffel Tower

Very cool. Out of curiosity, did you do any structural tests or design before building it or did you just slap it up? I used to slap things together, but as they got bigger, they would become way too unstable, so now I at least think about building (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)

Eric, you are doing some *terrific* things there. If you're not satisfied with the wall gate structure, I'd suggest making the outer face a little more interesting.
