UFO clear and gray pieces - Are they useful for emulating architectural features?

When the UFO stuff first came out, I scoffed at them (because I'm more into
town than space).

However, I decided that I wanted to build a merry-go-round and the circular
pieces would make a good top.

So, I bought two UFO sets.

I never was able to get a merry-go-round I was happy with, but I've used the
UFO pieces on a lot of different buildings as canopies.

I sanded down some of the gray round pieces (and later used "Brasso" with
much better results) to get rid of the stupid graphics.

Here is a use of the round gray pieces (see the 2nd picture on the page):

Here is a use of the clear round pieces ( see the blue hotel on the left):

There are a few other examples on my web site.

Has anyone else made use of these?

(...) Kind of funny that you should bring this up about the UFO hulls. I just purchased an alien avenger 6975 today at a great clearance price at ShopKo. Regularly $59.99 I got it for an astounding $7.99!!!!! To bad it was the only one left or I (...) (25 years ago, 9-Mar-00, to lugnet.build.arch)
