Samuel is born - I like Elkanahs customizedite hairpiece quite a lot. In
the second pic Im a little creeped out by the two smallest kids, though -
with all that tan around them they look like disembodied heads to me. That
head-as-body trick works well for a wrapped-up baby, but not so well for
bigger kids, IMO.
|
I cant argue that it looks pretty messed-up, but I havent figured out (or
seen) a better way to depict a minifig whos intended to be a toddler--bigger
than a baby, but not big enough for stubbies. There was my older version with
just a regular 1x1 cylinder, but then the head looked too big for the body. I
mean, I know toddlers heads are proportionally big, but I guess the old
version looked slightly more freaky to me.

I like the temple of Yahweh a lot - was there a reason why
you used older white bricks?
|
Sometimes I like the mix of white and off-white shades. Makes a building have a
little more character, I suppose. Im not sure how old the temple of Yahweh at
Shiloh is supposed to be in these stories, since theres no information given in
the Bible about who built it, when it was built, or why it was eventually
forsaken for the Jerusalem temple of Yahweh.

The way you did the legs in the 3-year-old bull is a nice idea.
|
Yeah, that looks kind of funny, but I guess I like it. Its not new--must have
appeared in the BT before, because I simply pulled it out of my bin of
brick-built animals bin this time around. :)

Corrupt priests - Good head choices for Elis sons. Those little mustaches
always looked kinda sleazy to me. In the second pic it kind of looks as if
the priest is naked while picking out his meat.
|
Heh, yeah, that turned out a little weird. I had no idea what sort of outfits
the priests assistants would wear. But then I noticed that Samuel seems to
be in the role of a priests assistant (since hes ministering before Yahweh and
seemingly not actually a priest) and he is specifically described as wearing a
loincloth (plus the cloak his mom made him). Anyhow, yeah, in that first shot
the cauldron completely blocks the loincloth, so he looks buck naked. Oops.
|
Messenger boy of doom - I agree, those temple furnishings are really nice.
How is Samuels wrap held on, btw?
|
Usually Samuels wrap is just held in place by the friction of his hands at his
sides. In instances where I wanted Samuel to be gesturing with one hand, I used
a 1x1 round plate pressed into the back of his leg to hold the wrap in place in
lieu of the hand making the gesture. As long as the photo is taken nearly
straight-on, the 1x1 is hidden from view.

Its a nice effect to have God get more
and more obvious with each time he called.
|
Glad that came across. Wasnt sure what else to do to add interest to those
shots. I briefly considered just using the same photo of God calling to Samuel
three times, and the same one photo of Samuel waking up Eli. But nah.

Philistines capture the Ark - How did the priests get the ark out of the
temple? It looks too wide for the door.
|
Good eye. Yeah, I laughed when I realized that. Guess it takes a miracle.
|
I like the perspective on So the Philistines fought a lot,
|
Thanks. Im experimenting ever more with camera angles below the subject
looking upward. It can give a heroic look to some shots.
|
also a nice pose for the broken neck of Eli.

Dont lean back in your chairs, kids! (Even if youve just received news your
two sons were killed.)
