I had done a smaller menorah for High Priest’s house in the Trial of the Century
story in The Life of Jesus. That one used just hands for the candlesticks, this
one has a larger base and uses full arms.
I tried a few other menorah designs, but wasn’t happy with them. I wanted the
arms to come off of a central beam, but just couldn’t figure out how to make it
work.
I spent a fair amount of time going over the Bible’s descriptions of the
tabernacle furnishings and looking at how others have represented them in
artwork and models. I really should have done this all back when I was
illustrating The Wilderness. My old version of the “Tent of Meeting” is pretty
pathetic. Maybe I’ll have to redo those some day.
Anyhow, now we’ve got the brazen altar, the laver, the menorah lamp, the incense
altar, and the table of shewbread. Good times.

Cool, I wasn’t sure what percent of BT fans would be interested in that, but I’d
been meaning to figure out how to make an RSS feed anyhow.
