Snipped the stuff I agree with (most of it)

In lugnet.build, Richard Marchetti writes:

The one thing I cannot quite figure out, but I am sure we can all agree that
it is a problem, is the glacial pace that TLC seems to have adopted in
meeting the demands of new (AFOL and Web) markets.  TLC is moving as slow as
molasses and THAT is very, very irritating. I have to assume that TLC talks
and researches everything to death before making even the smallest most
obvious moves. And that is too bad for us who have been waiting so long for
them to get their act together and more quickly.

I think we may have to agree to disagree on this.

Like I've said before, I wish they WOULD move faster, but doubt that they
are *capable* of it without organizational change. And like I and some
others have intimated, I see that change emanating from LD. I believe I
already see an acceleration in how fast LD does stuff compared to their
start. It still is not as fast as I would WISH it to be but it is as fast as
I understand it *can* be based on listening to Brad and others in the
organization, my analysis and informed speculation by others, and drawing on
what I know of them and other organizations given my background in observing
a lot of different organizations.

So let's not take a "love it or leave it" attitude here.  The Classics and
Legend lines are very promising and very "right" moves for TLC to make now
-- and its about time!  At the same time, there is still plenty of room for
improvement - things are fine, but let's hope they make them even better!
Some of you may look upon such comments as whiney, bitter, or negative --
but actually they are not.  Such comments are intended as a kind of
constructive criticism -- and finally we can enjoy the conceit that TLC
indeed listens to us.

Agreed. This is an important point, constructive commentary ought to be
encouraged if it adds new perspectives, information, viewpoints, etc.

My problem has more to do with the naysayers of
criticism than with the original negative comments themselves.  If I post
about wanting Cypress Trees added to the Service Pack offerings then I would
prefer we could show some unity of purpose and just add "me toos" or other
positive comments

Agreed that no one should be saying stuff like "I hope you don't get your
stuff, I want mine first" or etc. as that's destructive. Very.

rather than the usual bitching about the perceived
implementation or cost problems. "O that would be sweet, but you're never
gonna get pitchforks again because blah, blah, blah...." Spare me, okay?!

Again, we may need to agree to disagree. I think there is value in
speculation about why stuff is more or less likely to be possible. I'll be
blunter than I was in my comments about airport shuttle... I sincerely
believe, for good and sufficient reason, that the monorail motor is going to
be a very tough part to revive. I'd be delighted to be wrong. But why get
your hopes pinned on something that isn't likely to happen if you can wish
for things that MIGHT?

So I see value in analysis of likelyhood. It isn't likely that I am going to
get to vacation on the moon either... While I agree with you that no one
ought to deny me the right to wish for it, I see value in people pointing
out it's unlikely if I go on and on about it and that I ought to stop.

Mostly reasonable, yes... and yes, I *am* terrified. Clearly, aliens have
taken over your brain...

(...) Such a pity...I have no first-hand experience with TLC such that I can actually comment with any real force. I will defer to your greater knowledge and first-hand experience here, Larry. I still think some changes should be happening more (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-01, to lugnet.build)

Hey Y'all: There seems to be some general annoyance hovering over the brilliant Lego Direct move to rerelease the Guarded Inn. Some people think this is a great step forward. Others are annoyed that it was not something else, or somehow better. I (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-01, to lugnet.build)
