Hello, I hope this is the correct place to post this.  I looked through the
FAQs but didn't see anything that applied to what I’m going to ask about.

I recently rediscovered LEGO and have been acquiring quite a lot of parts
that I’m going to use for building MOC.  I'm trying to figure out what the
best way to sort and store the parts would be.

I started by sorting by colors, but that isn't very efficient.  It takes
forever when I’m looking for a specific part that's among a lot of other
parts that are the same color but different sizes.  This is especially true
when there are only a few (or one!!) of the specific part I’m looking for.

It definitely isn't practical for me to sort each part into specific part
type (all 1x1, 1x2, and all the different plates and "special parts" etc.)

Does anyone have any suggestions or is there some info somewhere that would
help me figure this out without having to go through all of the pain
involved with learning by trial and error?? :-)

Thanks

Ron

You may want to take a look at old threads in lugnet.storage. If you find one that does a good job of answering your question, post the message number to lugnet.faq and I'll add it to the faq. Cary "Ronald" <Junk@centuriontech.com> wrote in message (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.build)

Hey Ron, Well, I currently have three of the drawer units from HomeBase that you'd use in the garage for holding screws and whatnot. I put all my small and specialized bits in those. Then I have larger rubbermaid-style shoe boxes I got at KMart, and (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.build)

You'll probably find that the more LEGO you get, the more complex the sorting system gets. Until the point where you have so many different drawers, boxes and trays that it won't fit you table or other workspace... How you sort will depend on what (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.build)

(...) Home Depot has clear screw sorting bins for $4.25. Not to be confused with the more expensive ones. They have two rows of six bins, one row of 4 bins and 1 row of 2 and the dividers aren't adjustable. These things are inexpensive and sort (...) (24 years ago, 13-Dec-00, to lugnet.build)

Right now, I sort by color, but I also have several boxes of "new" LEGO. The "new" LEGO is typically a box filled with about 3-4 new LEGO sets of parts. I have a pretty good idea of what parts are in those sets, so I can go to the right box. This is (...) (24 years ago, 13-Dec-00, to lugnet.build)
