I can sympathize with Patrick.  Taking pictures of black models sucks.
Getting sufficient light to capture detail, without being too harsh is
frustrating.   And it seems no amount of gamma tweaking or
contrast/brightness adjustments does any good.

What really bites is if the majority of your Lego collection is black,
as mine is...

you know, it's funny how that works out.  when i disassembled the majority of
my sets a few years ago and sorted the pieces into colors, the black pieces
were the most abundant.  and of the smaller plates and bricks, the black pieces
had the majority of the good and usable specialty pieces (hinges, plates and
clips, etc.).

I just rationalize it by saying that it adds to the "mystique" of the
model.

For instance:
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/4654/apache.jpg
This is about the only half-decent picture from an entire roll.  :-(

i had seen this on your page before, but that photo really shows what a dang
cool model you've created, terry.  GREAT STUFF!
(by the way, i totally empathize with you on taking a whole roll of pics and
only getting a couple of 'usables'.)

Yet another reason to get a digital camera.  I take pics of black models with both
the flash on and off, at slightly different angles, and take WAY too many pics,
then look at them on my laptop to decide which to keep, throwing out over half of
them many times.

Of course, with an all black model (like my SWAT truck, which I need to take pics
of AGAIN, I totally reworked it, and "finished" it finally), it is STILL next to
impossible to get good pics unless you have lots of patience and try many different
lighting techniques.
