Thanks

Terry K., who deals with the Model of the Month at www.ldraw.org gave me
this advice.  I'll paraphrase just in case he objects to any of his specific
wording.

In MLCAD, there is a "part" called POV-RAY (under Other Parts\P).  Place 2
of these.  Put the first one where you want the camera to be, and put the
second one where you want the camera to look.

Now, use L3P (I use LP3AO because its much easier to use) with the -L
option.  This generates light source coordinates in POV-RAY for the two
light sources you placed.

In POV-RAY, go to the bottom of the file, and you will find two light
definitions.  Copy this text and paste it into notepad or something.

Go back and re-run L3P without the -L option.  this will restore the default
lights.

Go back into POV ray and find the "camera" command.  Within this command,
there is a vaxis_rotate command and a look_at command.  Paste the first
light coordinate (now in notepad) into vaxis_rotate (replacing only the
first vector), and then past the 2nd light coordinate (also in notepad) into
the look_at command.

This is klunky, but it works.  In fact, it worked perfectly the first time I
used it!  I got exactly the shot I wanted.

I hope that helps.

Brad

Hmmm I actually create my rendered files a little differently. If you use MLCAD, you most certainly can see the x,y,z co-ordinates in the bottom left corner when you move the mouse around in the Top, Down, Left, Right, Front and Back "View Angles" (...) That's so cool! I was having real brainaches trying to work out the co-ordinates I wanted to set my camera up to use, and this makes it fairly simple. Dan (24 years ago, 27-Oct-00, to lugnet.build, lugnet.town, lugnet.cad)
