I recently purchased The Ultimate Lego Book and quickly set about building
some of the models inside.
One really cute item was the green wheelie bin (don't have the book in front
of me, it's somewhere near the phone booths and US buildings) which I managed
to put together after sourcing all of the necessary green bits.  Black bins
look good too.
Anyway, I now want to build a garbage truck to go with the bins.
I am going to include a mechanism similar to the alternate model of 8868
(a pnuematic arm that picks up the bin and tips it, powered by a compressor.)
Has anyone built anything similar before?  I am currently searching for
pictures and real life examples of garbage trucks (appart from the one that
wakes me up at the crack-o-dawn each Wednesday) so if anyone can point me in
the right direction for images...
I'm still undecided on which wheels to use to match the scale of the bins.
I have a good stock of all wheels, suggestions welcome.

I also couldn't resist making my own copy of the red sphere.  As I don't have
enough of one colour, I compromised and made a beach ball - about 7 stripes
for each half.  It's remarkably strong, but can sting a bit if you catch it on
a sharp edge :)

How many others went silly copying models from The ULB?

Braith.

(...) Well, I used some ideas from the people made in it and created a 2-foot man. He has a red cap, glasses, a moustache, blue shirt, red pants, and black shoes. Quite realistic, actually. (24 years ago, 1-Aug-00, to lugnet.org.au, lugnet.build, lugnet.loc.au.wa.per)
