Way back when, I discovered this use for these parts after I'd
accidentally broken a few. Even as I kid, I was too perfectionist to
intentionally break my toys. Consequently I never had enough to do much
with. A few years later, Tyco block sets had two kinds of converters. First
were 2x2 double-stud plates, a very thin plate with 4 studs on each side.
These are perfect for back-to-back join, though because of a non-standard
brick dimension you have to finagle other bricks with tiles, etc., to build
around them. The other Tyco converters were stud-to-stud connectors. These
looked like 2x2 square reticles (which is what I often used them for). They
were half-block thick, and studs plugged into both sides. As a more standard
size, they were easier to build around, but I just never came up with many
uses for them--though that may have just been a lack of imagination. As far
as I know, these Tyco pieces came only in grey and blue, respectively. Mine
have mostly disappeared into the lego collections of my cousins by now....

Anyways, when I was younger, I remember "breaking" off the round clip • part and
use it to join two pieces "back to back" (or "socket to socket").  I'm • sure
that would come in useful in some situations.

Anybody else try this before?

(...) I actually broke 'em for another reason--because I always lost my 1x1 plates, and needed more. ;) But actually, when I need to connect brick to brick, I use the Technic peg with one stud end instead, alternating directionwise. It's extremely (...) (24 years ago, 12-Mar-00, to lugnet.build)
